📜 Historic Note
Glendalough means “the valley of the two lakes.” Its monastic settlement was founded by St Kevin in the sixth century and later became one of Ireland’s most important centres of religion and learning.
The surviving Round Tower stands approximately 30 metres high and once served as a landmark, bell tower and place of refuge.
